Projects
Our research project organizes regular in-school professional development workshops at Joyce Public School in Northwestern Toronto for teachers and researchers to share views on how we might approach literacy education to better serve our culturally and linguistically diverse, digitally socialized student body. In our monthly workshops, we learn about inclusive education from multiple perspectives; language and literacy development in a culturally diverse environment; digital technologies and genres in contemporary social practices; immersive learning; and narrative development. Specialist teachers, including the literacy co-ordinator, librarian, music teacher, and technical advisor collaborate with grade teachers to organize, teach and document inclusive class narrative projects that invite children to develop and adapt the stories they are learning to read in contemporary cultural perspective. Our research consortium shares problems, issues, insights, and ideas, and showcases annual class projects.
